Sometimes small-medium sized businesses find themselves in a position where they could really do with some more customers, sharpish.
Perhaps you are or have been in a similar situation?
If so, this blog is for you.
How do I get more customers quickly?
Everyone will have a different answer to this question.
Some may say cold calling, door knocking, cold emailing and a number of other direct approaches.
I’d suggest something else…
The thing with these forms of marketing, you’re simply assuming that the recipient wants or needs your product/service. If like me, you’ve tried cold calling you know that 95% of the people are in no position to even consider purchasing from you.
Target those with a need or a want for your product/service
Instead of wasting your time trying to sell to those that aren’t interested, surely it would make more sense to target people who are actively searching for your product or service?
Easier said than done? Not necessarily.
Pay per click (PPC)
Pay per click could be the answer.
What is pay per click?
Pay per click is a form of advertising in which you pay for your website to be shown at the top of the search engine.
In essence, when you set up a PPC campaign you pay for your website to be shown in the top of the search results when certain key phrases are searched.
Look at this image which shows two adverts for mole catchers in Norfolk.
Each key phrase has a different cost per click (CPC) for example the image below shows the various CPC for phrases related to ‘boiler installation’.
Why is pay per click the way to get more customers quickly?
With Google AdWords (PPC) your website is lifted to the top of Google for your desired key phrases instantly.
But more importantly, people searching for ‘Web design Norfolk’ for example, are most likely looking to purchase what they’re searching for.
This means you’re removing the guesswork of direct outreach and getting your business (website) in front of people who have a want and need to buy.
What’s the difference between PPC and SEO?
Unlike SEO, PPC gets your website to the top of Google instantly with an ‘Ad’. SEO, on the other hand, is a continuous process with no guarantee of reaching the top of the search results. Also, pay per click, as you’ve guessed by the name, costs you money every time someone clicks onto your website through the AdWords listing.
Generally, SEO is long term and works out cheaper in future, but PPC is short term and may work out more costly in the long term.
When is PPC not the right way to get more customers quickly?
- You don’t have a website
- Your website is hard to use and generally unlikely to convert users into inquiries/customers
- You have no budget for getting new customers
